Forking Paths (2018)
Single-channel video installation with found video and audio from digitized evidence archive of United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague; vehicle side mirrors
Dimensions variable; video duration 6 mins.
Forking Paths draws inspiration from a Borges short story imagining infinite parallel worlds emerging from alternative paths taken, both individually and collectively. The video and audio components are sourced entirely from the institutionally-digitized VHS evidence archives of a UN war crimes tribunal. This includes raw video captured by warring parties, international peacekeepers and investigators, as well as journalistic reportage from regional and international television networks, accompanied, in the case of American sources, by commercial advertisements.
